The York Region Abuse Program will be offering the following groups starting in January 2008. All groups are offered free of charge and run for 11 weeks between the hours of 6:00-8:00pm.

Adolescent Group:
This group is intended for young women between the ages of 13-18 who have experienced sexual abuse as a child or adolescent. This therapeutic group will provide a support network of other young women who share similar feelings, concerns and experiences.

Women’s Group: A group for women 19 years and older who have experienced sexual abuse as a child or adolescent. The group will provide a support network of women who share similar feelings, concerns and experiences. Topics will include: healthy sexuality, flashbacks, boundaries, coping skills, problem solving, communication and stress management.

Men’s Group: This group is for men who have experienced sexual abuse as a child or adolescent. The group will provide a support network of men who share similar feelings, concerns and experiences. Topics will include: healthy sexuality, flashbacks, boundaries, coping skills, problem solving, communication and stress management.

Gay & Bisexual Men’s Group: A group for gay or bisexual men who have experienced sexual abuse as a child or adolescent. The group will provide a support network of men who share similar feelings, concerns and experiences. Topics will include: healthy sexuality, flashbacks, boundaries, coping skills, problem solving, communication and stress management.

Supportive Caregiver’s Group: This group provides education and support to caregivers who have children that have disclosed sexual abuse. In addition, this group will help increase awareness about sexual abuse related to different childhood developmental stages, educate about normative versus concerning sexual behaviours in children, increase understanding about healthy sexuality and establishing boundaries, increase coping, problem solving and stress management skills.

Children’s Group: Intended for children between the ages of 3-12 who have disclosed sexual abuse. This group aims to help children identify their feelings and increase understanding about healthy sexuality, establishing boundaries and personal safety strategies.
