Children’s Group

York Region Abuse Program will be running an 11-weeks therapeutic group for children between the ages of 8-12 who have disclosed sexual abuse. The group takes place in York Region.

The group will:

• Provide children with a safe place to process and understand their sexual victimization as well as reduce feelings of shame and isolation
• Promote the development of coping, conflict resolution, problem solving and personal safety strategies
• Increase understanding about healthy sexuality and establishing boundaries
• Increase the recognition and expression of emotions, helping children to identify and understand the feelings associated with their sexual abuse experience
• Cultivate a positive environment where all activities are child-centred and strength-based
   

Space is limited and priority will be given to children who are currently involved in YRAP’s Child and Family program, and/or have received individual counselling prior to starting group.
