At a Glance
York Region Abuse Program was founded in 1987 and provides the following services throughout York Region using an inter-agency, interdisciplinary based model:
Adult and Adolescent Program - Provides individual and group therapy for adolescents and adults who have experienced childhood sexual abuse.
Child and Family Program - Provides individual and group therapy for children aged 3 – 12 years who have been sexually abused as well as offers psycho-educational support to their supportive caregivers.
Abuse Prevention Program - Teaches elementary and high school students to be safe from all forms of abuse through plays, videos and classroom discussion. This program includes in-service training for teachers, parent’s nights and reaches approximately 25,000 students annually.
Group Therapist Training Program - Provides training and internship opportunities for professionals who would like to enhance their group therapy skills specific to working with individuals who have been sexually abused.
Volunteers Program - YRAP is a volunteer-based organization that relies on the generous contributions of volunteers and students to support its many important programs and services. Volunteers provide administrative support, outreach, transportation, fundraising support, and participation as members of sub-committees and the Board of Directors.
